what this iPhone means to me

Ok, so I use an iPhone, just like 50 million other people who uses iPhone (according to the apple blog)
So what makes each iPhone so different than the others? I’d say the combination of more than 85,000 apps inside each and every iPhone that makes the big diff.

I admit it, at first, when i was going to buy this phone, i just thought that this would just be a really cool phone with a bunch of really cool games. but now, as i use it more, the games on my iphone are reducing as more productive and useful apps is coming in.

i used to have like more than 15 games in my iphone, now, there’s only 7 that i barely even use, i just dont wanna stuck in some weird place without a signal coverage and got bored. so i keep the 7.

i got a total of 55 apps in my phone, including factory bundled apps. and only 7 out of 55 that can be categorized as ‘games and entertainment’ the other 48 is almost all useful.

in this post, I’m gonna share the apps that i use the most and what do they do..

let’s start with…

1. Twitterific
when i first got involved in twitter, the first thing i did was looking for the iphone apps. turns out there are 30 iphone apps for twitter, at that time. i went from one apps to another. the best one that fits me well is twitterific. it’s easy to use, does what it should, and looks good. maybe there’s another app that’s better than this, but i won’t bother to look for another app as long as this one fits me.

2. facebook >> self explanatory

3. Best Camera
I bought this one as soon as chase jarvis posted it on twitter. he made this app based on his need, some of you may know that he’s one heck of an iphone photographer.
this app has 14 different filters, and sharing options to twitter, facebook, and a dedicated website for the app on www.thebestcamera.com

4. Things
this app is expensive, compared to the other, and that kinda made me hesitate for a while to buy this app. it’s basically a to-do list, with reminders and categories. sync with the same app on my mac (sold separately). i finally bought it for the sake of being more organized. and i hope i get more organized as i go.

5. Newsstand and ReadItLater
this one complements the other. I used both. newsstand gives me updates on the blogs that i follow, and read it later allows me to download the article that i want to read to my phone, so i could read it offline, it’s kinda like a temporary bookmark, with offline reading options.

6. whatsapp messenger
when you have a number of friends using blackberry, and they often ’suggest’ that their phone is better because of the blackberry messenger, show ‘em this app. HA!

those 6 apps that I recommend, look good. don’t you just hate it when an app is dodgy looking?

the perfect human being, or so he says

I went to melbourne festival today, and on the train back, we stop for quite a while at a certain station. There were these guys sitting in the seats adjacent to mine, and one of them was staring to the platform through the window, watching this one poor ‘overweighted’ girl and said to his friends, “look at her, look at how fat she is” and a few more sentences on that topic. and i’m not exactly sure about what happened next, i think he was mouthing the word ‘FAT’ to the girl, and the girl came inside the train and said, “are you calling me fat? why are you calling me fat??” and he said, “because you are a fat idiot.” then the girl left the train.

then there was this man that was sitting at the back of the train and said something like, “you don’t have to say that to her. what’s up with you?” then this one d*ckhead replied to him, “it’s not my fault that she’s fat. it’s people like her that make this country looks fat.” the man said, “who are you to say that?” he replied, “i’m a perfect human being, everybody wants to be like me, even you want to be like me.”  and they argue for a few minutes after that.

random people argue on a train is something usual here in melbourne, what makes me uncomfortable is when he said that he’s the ‘perfect’ human being. for one thing, there’s no such thing as ‘perfect’, and for another thing, if he really is the ‘perfect’ human being, why does he seems like a perfect d*ckhead to me, he’s the best d*ckhead on that train tonight, probably the best that i’ve seen in my life. what he did to that girl is so inappropriate, so rude, and so uncalled for.

i don’t usually swear in my blogposts, or even in the real life, but it’s really hard for me to mention this guy without any swearwords as my vocabs.

you can get entertainment, shop, chat, even date on the internet. wonder if i could pee or eat online, then i dont have to leave my laptop. ever.

Cheap pen

I like brainstorming with cheap pen. It makes me feel like I’m not ‘making’ anything, you know, like you’re not ‘crafting’ anything, therefore you got nothing to lose, and it tells me to not be afraid to put whatever comes in my mind to the paper. It really brings out the best of me.
I have a whole pack of the cheapest ‘bic’ pen that you can get, those ones with their blue caps on em. Love em. And not to forget hotel pens. With their clicking sounds, ahh..
When it comes to final thing, I do use a higher quality pen tho. But for brainstorm, I like em to be cheap. And I’m trying to apply the same theory to paper.

the relationship that we used to know and own

me and one of my girl friend had a talk about relationship today.

we were talking about the abstract concept of love and how that applies in real life.

well, for me, i think what we see in a prospective girlfriend or boyfriend is different, and it should be different.

it grew as we go along in life.

in junior high, some of us experienced the very first taste of what they called “love”. ah come on, in junior high, if someone’s popular enough asks you out, you would go out with him (for girls), and if someone’s pretty enough, you would ask her out (for boys). that’s not love, but we used to claim that it is.

in senior high, things are getting more serious, and the concept of love is getting deeper. even if he’s the most popular guy in school, you wouldn’t go out with him if he’s a jerk (most likely, but not in some case involving some very poor girls). so we know “love” better then.

then you graduated, go to uni, with 3 or 4 years before we live on our own. and give or take 8-10 years before we get married. we think more maturely. the popularity and the good looks are getting less percentage in  ”what we see in a guy/girl”. especially a guy. because he would have to make enough living for his future family. and that quality has to be there, or even a sign that the quality would show up soon. strangely enough, some girl haven’t think about it.

a part of love and another part of logic make a relationship, and the percentage of logic goes higher along with our age. i’m not saying that love is not important, love is important in a relationship, it’s very important, it’s the baseline of a relationship. but love is not all you need. the beatles lied to you. i’m telling you girls, it is not all you need.

what seems to be the problem is when we now have a relationship that we bring from back in high school. i mean, what you see in a guy/girl has changed, but you have love him/her already.

still with me?

example: in high school, the most good looking and popular guy asked you out, and you said yes, and he’s good to you, really good, he respects you and everything. but he’ showing no interest in what he’s gonna be in the next 3 years, he’s living off his dad money (and seems like he’s planning to do that forever), he’s not showing any sign that he could make a living in the next few years, he still acts like he was in high school. but he’s good to you, and he LOVES you. what do you do next?

unless his father is donald trump, i’d say find someone else.

some girls in that case doesn’t realise that, and they still think that love is everything. and they don’t wanna lose him. (i’m speaking especially to the girls because they’re the one who have to find a “money maker” in the family, unless you plan to work your ass off and let your husband stay at home to take care of the children and making dinner.)

sure, love have to accept all weakness and flaws and imperfections, but once again, love is not all you need. you need money and food in order to keep on living (and loving).

without any means to sound materialistic or anything, but you do need money, everybody does. and you know it.

so if your guy like the above guy,and if all there left is love, and you don’t see a future “money maker” in your guy (i’m speaking for the logic part of the relationship.), don’t sugarcoat it.

try once, step back from all the love you have, and see logically. don’t let love get in your way, for once.

then you revise, he has to be able to give you not only the thing you WANT, but also the thing you NEED in life (even if you don’t want it).

don’t sugarcoat your relationship in the name of LOVE.

love doesn’t feed you food, and never will. you want love, but you still need to eat.

so for both gender, be aware. for girls, look for the guy who could make a living, and for guys, try to make a living!

quite a heavy topic for this happy blog. but what the heck, i’m growing up too!!

have a nice sleep, and a bad dream..

i’ve been having these thoughts about dreams. so dream is a process of imagination that happens unconsciously, usually when we’re asleep.

yesterday, i was trying to get asleep, as per usual, i have the iphone in my hand, watching my twitter timeline, on the other side trying to come up with something interesting to tweet.

then my mind starts to wonder, what’s so good about a ‘nice dream’? it’s everything you wanted but not happening in reality? nice dreams make the reality worse, or at least make you feel that way.

say in your dream, you’re a rockstar, rich and famous, and you date this very hot supermodel. you got everything you wanted in life, not to mention everything you need. and 3 seconds later, you wake up, and say, “DAMN, it was all just a dream.. a real good one..” isn’t it sad? well, i’d be sad if i woke up and realise that it was all just a dream, and my life is actually sucks.

another situation, you’re chased by this abducting alien, you see your friends been taken, and eaten. then you wake up and probably say, “phew, it was only a dream. THANK god it was only a dream.” you’d be thankful with the reality.

somehow, i think that nice dreams are bad for the reality, bad dreams make you feel better about the reality.

well you can say, “it’s just a dream, who cares?” okay, i do. =P

i think nice dreams are for people that never wake up.

in other context, dreams is often connected with “goals”. when people say, “he’s living his dream.” that means he once dreamt about it, and feel bad about his life, and feel the urge to make it better. (it can still produce good outcomes, but still..)

so yeah, from now on, i’m gonna stop telling people to “have a nice dream.” i’ll say, “have a nice sleep” instead.

designer’s part on global warming

i think designers should start brainstorming on recycled paper, instead of those fancy stocks.. we spend so much paper just to brainstorm, i know it feels different when you write on an expensive paper compared to recycled papers, but is it worth it? it’s getting hotter each day. come on, think ecological. imma start doing that.
